from my room, doubly reflected in the balcony windows

  1. when i used to work late, very late, these last years, i would always look at my ghostly self in these windows, so tired that i could barely distinguish who is who, before turning off the lights and leave the room...

  2. how perfectly this tells the story of photography, which is always a weighted negotiation where attempts at seeing the world beyond the window are interrupted by the self reflected there ... or/and where the search for the self meets distraction and complication when the supposed mirror opens out and flings the unsuspecting self into the immensity of a night :-)

(i love the delicate tracery of branches in the second image :-)

    1. or perhaps the self, tired of her own complications, exhausted of being the self, longs for this opening out, for being thrown out of herself into the immensity of night :-)

(i have another shot of those branches, soon :-)

(we never cease to wonder in front of what photography is, do we? how could we :-)

    1. i used to do this to (caffeine from tea, though :-) - and it didn't do me any good, of course :-)

this is from my small working room, where i have my desk - it opens up to a closed balcony, where i keep many flowers.

  4. ..and now we imagine the details...is that denim or some other material; is the sleeve deliberately folded back or is that the design; is it cold inside? are those loose strands of straggly hair?

what is going on outside, what inside? if you didn't have the camera in your hand you'd resemble a flamenco dancer! but this is you, a distant reflection in a blue glass, as if some djinn has kept you there...

    1. i love the passage from James's pondering on the general, abstract take on the Self to your feverish search for particularities, anon :-)

i think the sleeve is deliberately folded back, those are loose strands of hair, it is not cold inside - but the rest must remain a mystery, even against my own will :-)

"Is it really the case that we're like shadows of our real selves, a ghostly presence to others?"
